Biography

DATO’ ABDUL RAHMAN MOHD REDZA is a partner in the Energy & Utilities practice group. He completed his secondary school education at Malay College Kuala Kangsar. He then went to do his A-Levels at Warwick School, United Kingdom and subsequently read law at the London School of Economic and Political Sciences (LSE), University of London.

He joined the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) in 1997 and served until 2003 as Assistant Parliamentary Draftsman and Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP). His experience in the AGC includes vetting and drafting the Acts and Bills of Parliament, Subsidiary Legislation, Legal Notification and Orders as well as the drafting of Government’s Agreements and Memorandum of Understanding. He was also responsible for translating the pre-1967 Acts of Parliament in accordance with the National Language Act 1963/67. As a DPP, he was charged with the task of prosecuting criminal trial cases in the High Courts and the Subordinate Courts of Kuala Lumpur, handling criminal appeal cases in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur, reviewing investigation papers presented by police and various enforcement agencies as well as directing the investigations. He also had the privilege of being appointed as one of the officers of the Malaysian Government’s delegation to the International Court of Justice, in The Hague, Netherlands to present one of the cases for Malaysia.

He joined the firm in 2003 and since then his primary area of practice has been corporate law specialising in energy, utilities, privatisation and corporatisation transactions, specifically on the water industry, where he was involved in conducting a number of feasibility studies in water-related matters. In this context, he was involved in the drafting of various legislation, including the Constitutional Amendment Act 2005, Water Services Industry Act 2006, Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara Act 2006, Water Supply (Successor Company Enactment) for the States of Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Federal Territory Labuan and Perlis, and Waters Act (Amendment) Enactment 2007 (as applicable to Negeri Sembilan).
